Abstract:  An animal umbrella is disclosed. The animal umbrella comprises a saddle, straps connected to the saddle for detachably attaching the saddle to the animal, a collapsible canopy, a shaft with first and second ends, connected at the first end to the canopy, and connected at the second end to the saddle in a pivotable manner, and a position lock to releasably secure the shaft in a vertical position. The shaft can be pivoted between a substantially vertical position and a substantially horizontal position, so that in a vertical position the canopy is open and held vertically, and in a horizontal position the canopy is closed and lies horizontally along the animal's back.
